Manufacturing a monument

LORE Furniture

Designed with a winning team of students during the 2018 RIT Industrial Design T-Minus challenge; Lore is an outdoor seating design and historical monument, that serves as a gathering place at the intersection of the original and expanded campus.

The benches celebrate 50 years of RIT in Henrietta, NY, by featuring wood reclaimed from an ancient oak tree that stood at the entrance to the campus, before being blown over during a winter storm in 2017.

With the help of RIT ID faculty, I led a team of students over 18 months: planning, refining the design of components and assemblies, fabricating custom parts and molds, pouring concrete, and installing the final structures.  We worked in partnership with RIT grounds and an anniversary committee to select an appropriate location and purchase materials.
